About Us
Kesh Malek is a Syrian civil society organization that began as a revolutionary coordination committee in late 2011 in the city of Aleppo, following the outbreak of the Syrian revolution against the ruling regime in Syria, demanding the rights of the Syrian people to change the totalitarian regime and transition into a republic. Kesh Malek adopts the values of freedom, dignity, and justice, as it worked to raise political awareness and stimulate participation in public affairs dialogues among Syrians, before gradually transitioning into a civil society organization in 2014. Kesh Malek is an organization registered in Turkey on (25/08/2014) under number (27-017-142), in France on (21/06/2018) under number (404-913-840), and in Syria on (30/09/2025) under decision number (4276). The Name "Kesh Malek" (Checkmate): It is associated with the slogan of the Syrian revolution to overthrow tyranny, which is represented by the "King", in a direct reference to Bashar al-Assad, who inherited the rule of Syria from his father Hafez al-Assad. The meaning later evolved to encompass all forms of tyranny, totalitarianism, monopoly of rule and power, and their inheritance. The Slogan of "Kesh Malek": "To Make Syria a Republic Again"; is a call for joint action among Syrians to adopt democratic practices and consolidate the principle of citizenship. Kesh Malek’s Vision: A free, just, and diverse Syria built on democracy, citizenship, and the rule of law. A state that respects human rights and guarantees equal opportunities for all. Kesh Malek’s Mission: Kesh Malek believes in the Syrian people's right to freedom, dignity, and justice; therefore, it works with Syrians and enhances their movement and participation in building society, engaging in public affairs, and struggling for their rights. It creates safe cultural and social spaces focusing on the Syrian national identity and political, cultural, and social rights, and stimulating creativity.
