Job purpose:

Under the supervision of the Project Manager, the Protection Coordinator leads the planning, technical oversight and quality assurance of World Vision's child protection and psychosocial support (PSS) component under the ECHO-funded multisectoral action 'Multisectoral Support for the Most Vulnerable Populations in Syria in Aleppo Governorate. The coordinator supervises World Vision's protection team and provides technical oversight and quality assurance to the partners, which directly implements child protection activities in World Vision-supported schools. The role ensures that case management, focused psychosocial support and awareness-raising activities meet Child Protection Case Management Minimum Standards, donor requirements and consortium protection guidelines, and that referral pathways effectively. The Protection Coordinator represents World Vision in relevant Child Protection coordination fora and works in close, day-to-day coordination with the Team Lead to ensure integrated delivery of education and protection activities across all targeted schools.

Major Responsibilities

  • Activity:
  • Supervise and provide technical guidance to World Vision's protection team, and technical oversight to the partners’ protection team, ensuring quality delivery of case management, focused PSS and child protection awareness activities.
  • Ensure that the partners’ protection activities are implemented in line with the Sub-Grant Agreement, agreed work plans, donor requirements and consortium protection standards, including the 7-step Child Protection Case Management process.
  • Conduct regular joint field visits and bi-weekly coordination meetings with the partners, provide technical guidance, and document progress, challenges and corrective actions.
  • Maintain and strengthen referral pathways linking case management, focused PSS and education activities delivered by the partners, ensuring timely, safe and documented referrals.
  • Oversee the child-friendly Complaint and Feedback Mechanism (CFRM) and safeguarding standards across all protection activities and supported schools, and manage coordination with relevant local authorities and government counterparts.
  • Coordinate closely with the Team Lead to align work plans, share updates, and jointly manage integrated implementation across all targeted schools.
  • Represent World Vision in the Child Protection Area of Responsibility (AoR), MHPSS Technical Working Group and other relevant coordination fora.
  • Prepare and submit Purchase Requests (PRs), BOQs and procurement requests in line with the approved budget and log frame.
  • Ensure safeguarding and child protection policies are fully applied and monitored across all World Vision and the partners -led activities.
  • Monitor project sites regularly to assess activity quality, compliance, and linkages between education and protection components.
  • Follow up on financial documentation and procurement with the relevant departments until invoices are fully closed.
  • Contribute to timely and accurate monthly, quarterly and final narrative reports, including inputs for the Consortium Steering Committee.
  • Provide daily technical coordination with the field team, MEAL and other departments to ensure efficient, high-quality delivery of protection activities.
  • Facilitate coordination between the partners, World Vision field staff and other consortium partners to guarantee consistency and quality of protection service delivery across all schools.
  • Identify implementation bottlenecks and propose practical solutions to the Project Manager.
  • Identify operational challenges across the protection component and recommend solutions to improve efficiency and quality of delivery.
  • Maintain regular communication with the Project Manager to ensure strategic alignment between protection implementation and overall project objectives.

Knowledge/Qualifications for the Role

Required Professional Experience:

  • At least 6 years of experience managing protection programmes in humanitarian settings, including direct implementation of child protection case management and psychosocial support services.
  • At least 4 years in a supervisory or technical leadership role, including experience overseeing the performance of implementing partners or sub-grantees.

Required Education, training, license, registration, and certification:

  • A university degree or diploma in business administration, social sciences, psychology, sociology, public administration, or any other relevant field.
  • Additional certifications in project coordination, facility management, humanitarian operations, or protection principles are highly desirable.
  • Training in safeguarding, child protection, or gender-based violence (GBV) is an asset.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of humanitarian standards, Sphere, or Core Humanitarian Standards (CHS) is preferred.
  • Prior engagement with NGOs, UN agencies, or community-based organizations is an advantage.

Preferred Knowledge and Qualifications:

  • Computer skills, in particular email, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
  • Fluency in Arabic required, and ability to write and speak English.
  • Good report writing skills.
  • Detailed oriented and able to verify data quality.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Good contextual knowledge of the local community and social/cultural constraints, realities and organizational relationships. Inspires trust within/outside of the organization.
  • Develops high levels of credibility and accountability.
  • Stays open to internal and external feedback.
  • Agrees with the mission, vision and core values of World Vision.
  • Finds fulfilment in work through creativity, risk-taking, initiative, and innovation, and encourages the same in colleagues.

Language Requirements:

  • Excellent written and fluent in speaking Arabic.
  • Good command of English in terms of speaking, reading, and writing.

Travel and/or Work Environment Requirement:

  • The position requires 100% of the time to be field-based.
  • Position requires willingness and ability to continue functioning during a crisis, including during a World Vision response to a man-made or natural disaster, and availability to work outside regular hours when required.
