About this Role

Position Overview

SARD is seeking a PSS Mobile Worker based in Azaz, Aleppo for a 9-month assignment. The position reports directly to the PSS Team Leader. SARD is a non-governmental organization established in 2012 that works to strengthen the resilience and self-reliance of people affected by conflict and natural disasters while promoting the localization of humanitarian assistance.

The PSS Mobile Worker is responsible for delivering psychosocial support services to children through structured activities, emotional support, and protection-focused interventions. The role aims to create a safe and supportive environment where children can improve their well-being and access appropriate services when needed.

Job Purpose

The PSS Mobile Worker will work directly with children by implementing psychosocial support activities that promote their emotional well-being, social development, and resilience. The position requires close collaboration with the PSS Team Leader to ensure that all activities are delivered according to organizational standards and child protection principles.

Key Responsibilities

The PSS Mobile Worker is responsible for implementing both scheduled and emergency recreational and psychosocial activities that address the varying needs of children and adolescents. The worker will create a safe, inclusive, and child-friendly environment where children feel comfortable expressing themselves, sharing their experiences, and building positive relationships with their peers and caregivers.

During activity sessions, the worker will monitor children's emotional and psychosocial needs, identify concerns related to mental health, and collect relevant information for follow-up. The role also involves educating children on psychosocial well-being, healthy coping strategies, and the support services available to them, encouraging them to actively participate in maintaining their mental health.

When necessary, the PSS Mobile Worker will provide individual emotional support and basic counseling to children experiencing stress, anxiety, or other psychological difficulties. Cases requiring specialized assistance must be referred through the appropriate referral pathways. Throughout all interventions, the worker must maintain a child-centered approach and always act in the best interests of the child while ensuring compliance with all organizational policies and procedures.

Communication and Reporting

The PSS Mobile Worker is expected to maintain positive and professional communication with colleagues and other staff members to promote a safe and productive working environment. The position requires providing weekly verbal updates on ongoing activities and the overall status of children during team meetings.

The worker must follow the guidance of the PSS Team Leader and implement weekly and monthly work plans prepared under their supervision. Any conflicts involving beneficiaries or staff members, as well as any issues affecting the center, must be reported immediately to the direct supervisor. Confidentiality concerning all information related to children must be maintained at all times.

Health and Safety Responsibilities

The PSS Mobile Worker is responsible for conducting visual inspections of equipment before use and reporting any safety concerns to the supervisor. The worker must contribute to maintaining a safe environment by identifying hazardous materials, ensuring they are securely stored, and promptly reporting all incidents, risks, and hazards to the PSS Team Leader.

Required Qualifications and Experience

Applicants should hold a Diploma in Psychology or another relevant field, or possess significant professional experience in social work. Candidates should have previous experience working in child protection programs and at least two years of experience as a Psychosocial Support Worker.

The successful candidate should have practical experience implementing psychosocial support activities for children and a solid understanding of the root causes of child protection concerns, international child protection standards, and prevention and response strategies. Familiarity with the Child Protection Cluster's standard operating procedures and tools is highly desirable.

Strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential, including empathy, active listening, and cultural sensitivity. Candidates should also demonstrate good computer literacy, with proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and the use of email and internet applications.
