It aims to increase civic spaces to play an active role in peace processes and early recovery of communities by empowering, protecting, and building community capacities, as well as enhancing the leadership role of women and marginalized groups, to achieve communities that embrace the principle of democracy and human rights.
Job Purpose
SYCAC is seeking five Field Project Officers to support a community-based project that strengthens civil society partnerships and promotes peaceful coexistence in Syria. Each officer will be based in one of five governorates (Aleppo, Idlib, Hama, Homs, or Tartous) and will serve as the primary field-level focal point for engagement with community-based organizations (CBOs), local communities, and relevant stakeholders, ensuring activities are implemented in a timely, high-quality, and conflict-sensitive manner.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the main point of contact for CBOs in the assigned governorate, supporting them from selection through initiative completion, including guidance on planning, implementation, and documentation.
- Identify capacity gaps and escalate issues to the Project Manager and Partnership & Grants Coordinator.
- Support CBOs in applying conflict sensitivity, safeguarding, and Do No Harm principles.
- Organize and co-facilitate trainings, workshops, and learning sessions, coordinating with Field Operations Officers on logistics.
- Conduct regular field visits and document participation, feedback, and outcomes.
- Support the Field M&E Assistant with data collection, beneficiary registration, and documentation.
- Submit timely field reports to the Project Manager on progress, challenges, contextual developments, and lessons learned.
- Maintaining constructive relationships with local authorities and community stakeholders, while coordinating—where appropriate—with relevant bodies at the governorate level.
- Ensure complaint and feedback mechanisms are accessible at all activities.
- Apply safeguarding standards in all field interactions, ensuring the inclusion of women, youth, and marginalized groups, and promptly report any safeguarding concerns to the Project Manager.
- Commit to SYCAC's Code of Conduct, child protection policy, and PSEA (prevention of sexual exploitation and harassment) standards.
Required Qualifications
- University degree in social sciences, development studies, peacebuilding, community development, or a related field; equivalent professional experience may substitute for a formal degree.
- Minimum 2 years of field experience implementing projects with NGOs or civil society organizations, including direct work with community-based or grassroots groups.
- Experience in peacebuilding, social cohesion, or community engagement programming is an advantage, particularly in post-conflict or fragile settings in Syria.
- Familiarity with the social and community context of the assigned governorate is strongly preferred.
- Sound understanding of conflict sensitivity and Do No Harm principles, with the ability to facilitate community meetings and trainings.
- Basic monitoring and documentation skills, and proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel).
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with sensitivity to gender, diversity, and inclusion.
- Arabic: required (native or fluent); English: basic to intermediate.
